Where Tango gets expensive or limiting
- Pro is $22 per user per month billed annually; the team plan is $15 per user per month for 3 or more users.
- The free plan is limited to 5 shared workflows, and PDF/HTML export and desktop capture need Pro.
- Guides are hosted in Tango’s cloud, which not every security team will approve.
What Steppr does differently
- Works in every Mac app, from browsers to Xcode, Figma, Excel and System Settings.
- Talk while you record and your narration becomes the step descriptions, transcribed on your Mac.
- Mark up screenshots with highlights, shapes, text and the mouse path.
- Export a PDF, one image per step or an MP4 video, ready for email, Slack or your LMS.
- Pin a guide onto the exact button it explains on a website.
- One license for your whole team at $199.99, so new hires don’t add cost.
A team of five, compared
On Tango Pro Team, five people cost about $900 a year, every year. A Steppr team license is $199.99 once and covers the whole team, with shared storage through Google Drive and email invites.
When Tango may still be the better fit
If you want guides hosted on the web with viewer analytics, or need Windows support today, Tango is built for that. Steppr focuses on fast, private guide creation on the Mac, with a Windows version coming.
How it works
- Start recording. Press ⌥⇧⌘R or choose New recording from the Steppr icon in your menu bar. It works with any app on your Mac.
- Do the task once. Click, type and talk it through the way you normally would. Each click, keystroke and shortcut becomes a named step, using the real button and field names.
- Polish and share. Add highlights, boxes, arrows or text, reorder steps, then export a PDF, one PNG per step, or an MP4 video.
