Privacy Policy

The short version: your recordings and guides stay on your Mac, our website doesn’t track you with cookies, and we collect only what we need to sell you a license and answer your emails.

Effective

Who we are

Steppr (“Steppr”, “we”, “us”) is an app and website operated by [Your full legal name], based in [Country]. For the purposes of data protection law, including the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are the data controller for the personal data described here. You can contact us at support@steppr.app.

The Steppr app

Your recordings and guides

Steppr records your screen, clicks, keystrokes and, if you allow it, your microphone, so it can build step-by-step guides. All of this, including transcription and step writing, is processed on your Mac. We do not run servers that receive, store or analyse your recordings, screenshots, audio, transcripts or guides, and we cannot see them.

One-time resource download

During setup, Steppr downloads about 1.6 GB of on-device resources. As with any download, the server that delivers these files receives your IP address and basic technical information. [Confirm where these files are hosted, e.g. “Cloudflare R2”, and whether any logs are kept.]

License activation

When you activate a license, the app checks your license key with [Paddle / Lemon Squeezy]. This check sends the license key and basic device information needed to validate it. [Confirm exactly what the app sends during activation.]

Analytics and crash reports

[Confirm one of these and delete the other:] The Steppr app does not collect usage analytics or crash reports. / The Steppr app sends anonymous crash reports to [provider] to help us fix bugs; they do not include your recordings or guides.

Integrations you choose to connect

You can optionally connect your own storage and email accounts, such as Google Drive. When you do:

Google user data. Steppr’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Steppr uses Google Drive access only to save and read the guides you choose to store there, and email access only to send the guides and invitations you choose to send. This data is processed on your Mac, is never transferred to us, is not used for advertising, and is not used to train AI models.

This website

Purchases

Payments are handled by [Paddle / Lemon Squeezy], which acts as the merchant of record: it is the seller on your receipt and processes your payment details, billing address and tax information under its own privacy policy. We never see your full card details. From each purchase we receive your name, email address, country, the product you bought and your license key, which we use to deliver and support your license and to keep records required by law.

Emails to support

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message, and we use it only to reply and help you. [Name your email provider, e.g. Google Workspace or Fastmail.]

Legal bases (EU and UK)

How long we keep data

Purchase records are kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require, typically up to [7–10] years. Support emails are kept for as long as needed to help you, and then deleted. We don’t store your recordings or guides at all.

Sharing

We don’t sell or rent your personal data. We share it only with the service providers named above (payment, hosting, email), each of which processes it to provide its service, or when required by law. Some of these providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including the EU, UK and California, you have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We do not sell or share personal data for targeted advertising. To exercise any of these rights, email support@steppr.app.

Children

Steppr is not directed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we’ll let customers know by email.
