General
What is Steppr?
Steppr is a step-by-step guide maker for Mac. Record a task once and it builds a how-to guide with annotated screenshots and written steps, which you can export as a PDF, images or an MP4 video.
Who is Steppr for?
Anyone who explains how to do things on a computer: operations and HR teams writing SOPs, IT and help desk staff, customer support, trainers, product teams writing tutorials, and freelancers documenting work for clients.
What can I make with it?
SOPs, process documentation, software tutorials, onboarding and training guides, IT how-tos, user manuals and bug reports.
How is Steppr different from Scribe or Tango?
Scribe and Tango are mainly browser extensions with cloud workspaces and per-seat monthly pricing. Steppr is a native Mac app that records any application, keeps everything on your Mac and costs a one-time fee.
How is Steppr different from Folge?
Both are desktop apps with one-time pricing that keep captures on your computer. Steppr also turns your narration into step text, exports MP4 video and pins guides to websites, and costs $9.99 for one person or $199.99 for a team.
Pricing and licensing
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay once: $9.99 for an individual license or $199.99 for a team license.
Why is it so cheap?
Steppr has no cloud behind it. Everything runs on your Mac, so there are no servers storing your recordings and nothing to charge you for every month.
How long is the free trial?
14 days for individuals and 28 days for teams, with every feature included. No account or card needed.
What happens when the trial ends?
You can keep recording and editing guides. Exporting and pinning guides are locked until you buy a license.
Does a team license cover everyone?
Yes. One team license covers your whole team, so nobody pays separately and adding people costs nothing.
Are taxes included?
Prices are in USD, before VAT and other taxes.
Privacy and security
Does anything I record leave my Mac?
No. Recording, transcription and step generation all run on your Mac. If you connect storage like Google Drive, guides are saved there only when you choose.
Does Steppr have servers?
No. Steppr has no servers that store your recordings or guides.
Where are integration sign-ins stored?
In your Mac’s Keychain. Steppr never stores or receives your sign-in tokens.
Where are my team’s guides stored?
In your own storage. Google Drive is available today, and OneDrive, Box and iCloud Drive are coming soon.
Recording and editing
What does Steppr capture?
Your screen, every click, keystroke and shortcut, and your voice if you allow microphone access. Each action becomes a named step using the real button and field names.
Does it work outside the browser?
Yes. Steppr records any app on your Mac, from browsers to Xcode, Figma, Excel and System Settings.
How do I start a recording?
Press ⌥⇧⌘R, or choose New recording from the Steppr icon in your menu bar.
Can I narrate instead of typing?
Yes. Your narration becomes step text, and the mic next to any description lets you dictate more. Transcription runs on your Mac.
Can I edit the screenshots?
Yes. Draw freehand, add circles, boxes and text, show the mouse path, or swap in the before or after frame.
Can I reorder or add steps?
Yes. Drag steps into order, then add more by capturing a new shot, picking recorded frames or uploading images.
Which permissions does it need?
Screen recording, plus the other macOS permissions Steppr asks for during setup, such as microphone access for narration.
Export and sharing
What can I export to?
PDF, images (one PNG per step) and MP4 video today. Word, PowerPoint, HTML, Markdown and other formats are coming.
What are pinned guides?
From the Steppr menu bar icon, choose Pin a guide, click any button, link or field on a website and pick a guide. Show pinned guides later highlights every pinned element, and one click opens the guide.
Can I send guides by email?
Yes. Connect Google Drive with send email access and Steppr sends guides and invitations from your own Google account.
System requirements
Which Macs does it run on?
Steppr runs on macOS 15 Sequoia or later.
How much disk space does it need?
About 1.6 GB of free space for its on-device resources, downloaded once during setup. You can start using the app while it finishes.
Is there a Windows version?
Not yet. A Windows version is coming soon.
